Cambridge girls advance to finals of South Platte Holiday Tournament; boys to play for third
BIG SPRINGS - The Cambridge girls basketball team ended a five-game losing streak with a 48-41 victory over conference-rival Dundy County-Stratton at the South Platte Holiday Tournament Wednesday afternoon.
The Trojans, now 4-5, will likely battle South Platte in Thursday's championship game at 4:30 p.m.
Against DCS, Cambridge built an early lead and held a 12-8 advantage after a quarter. After the Tigers scored six of the first eight to begin the second to take a two-point lead, the Trojans responded with their own 6-0 run and never relinquished the lead the rest of the way as they built a 20-16 edge at the half, then pushed the margin to double-digits in the third quarter.
Dundy County-Stratton, now 5-3, was able to climb as close as six on a few occassions, but never got the score back to a one-possession game.
Cambridge controlled the paint throughout the contest as the towering trio of Autumn Deterding (19 points), Schyler Hoberty (14) and Paige Klumpe (10) combined for 43 of the team's 48 points.

The Cambridge boys fell to 2-7 this season with an 82-47 loss to Dundy County-Stratton in the tournament's first round.
The Trojans were competitive through the first half and knocked down a three to pull wihtin six, 38-32, to open the third quarter, but DCS responded with a 26-3 run to close the period, leading 64-35 to the fourth. From there, DCS coasted to the victory.
Kyle Borland led the team with 17 points and Dahlton Wood scored 15 for the Trojans, who will play for third at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday.
