Cambridge, Hi-Line runners compete at State Cross Country
KEARNEY - The Cambridge and Hi-Line cross country teams sent individuals to compete at the Class D State Cross Country Meet in Kearney Friday with each athlete representing their school well.
Cambridge finished 13th place as a team, led by sophomore Brenna Deterding, who finished 29th with a time of 22:06, and freshman Rachel Harris, who took 39th place with a time of 22:32.
Trojans’ senior Megan tenBensel finished in 99th place with a mark of 24;56 and fellow senior Paige Sickels was soon behind, finishing 102nd with a time of 25:15. Cambridge junior Kori Koeppen took 108th place with a time of 25:50.
Hi-Line’s Whitney Dickau competed individually as well, finishing 75th with a time of 23:47.
Crofton captured the State Title and Nebraska Christian was runner-up, followed by Ainsworth, North Platte St. Pat’s and Palmyra.
Crofton’s Jordyn Arens took the individual title with a time of 19:11, beating the second-place runner, Nebraska Christian’s Hannah Swanson, by nearly a minute. Mullen freshman Peyton Paxton was third, McCool Juntion’s Payton Gerken was fourth and Palmyra’s Emily Frey was fifth.
