Eagles rise up for fifth and sixth wins of season

Southern Valley boys swept this week’s games versus the Ravenna Bluejays and the Superior Wildcats with a 45-36 win and a 56-44 win respectively.

On Thursday against the Bluejays, Southern Valley was able to secure a small lead of 19-14 at the end of the first quarter with the help of Senior Colton Burgeson, who knocked down three 3-pointers. They then relied on seniors Carter Bose and Dakota Coppedge in the 2nd quarter to secure 6 and 5 points respectively to go into halftime with a 24-13 lead over the Bluejays.

The Eagles ended with the victory. Senior Carter Bose led the team with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Colton Burgeson totaled 9 points, with senior Clayton Berry and junior Isaak McPhillamy both securing 7

In their bout against the Superior Wildcats, the Southern Valley Eagles gained a quick lead in the first half with points spread across five players. Superior not go down without a fight, and SV had to battle through a tough 2nd half.

Carter Bose and Clayton Berry were key players leading the team in points and rebounds. Bose led in both with 19 points and 14 total rebounds while Berry added 9 points and 12 total rebounds.

Superior came out early in the 4th quarter with some easy buckets, and Southern Valley had to ratchet up their defense. Issak McPhillamy played a key role in the 4th quarter knocking down 5 of 6 free throws adding to his total of 8 points in the game. Southern Valley heads into their home game on Tuesday against Southwest with a record of 6-1.
