Roughriders lead the way with runner-up

CAMBRIDGE - Southwest took second at the Fran Jorgensen Invite hosted at Cambridge Saturday, Dec. 19. As a team the Roughriders earned 128 points behind leader Atwood-Rawlins County with 140. Arapahoe finished fourth and Cambridge 14th with 103 and 39 points, respectively.

Matt VanPelt, 152, again led the Roughriders with 25 points on his way to a firstplace finish. He earns wins of pins in 1 minute, 19 seconds, 3:49, and decisions of 9-0 and 7-4.

Bryson Shoemaker, 285, was second in his bracket to earn 22 points. He won three matches with pins of 46 seconds, 1:53 and 1:06. He faced Arapahoe’s Levi Kerner in the championship match. Kerner took the match with a 1:12 pin.

Kerner earned his way to championship with pins of 41 seconds, 35 seconds and 26 seconds. He led the Warriors with 28 points.

Arapahoe’s Tristan White, 145, also finished in first with 21 points. He moved through the bracket with a bye, a 3:09 pin and a 9-0 decision.

Southwest’s Tyler Ellis and Cambridge’s Adam Corbett also competed in the 145-weight bracket. Ellis finished third over Corbett with a 1:54 pin. He also clocked pins of 4:45 and 3:53 on the day. Corbett won with a by and a 2:21 pin before falling in the third/fourth-place match.

Cambridge’s Bobby Evan, 195, finished second in his weight class by winning with a bye, a 5-second pin, a 4-2 decision and eventually falling

Arapahoe’s Wyatt Jenkins, 160; Isaac Goshert, 126; and Jordan Smith, 170, also placed for the team in second, third and fourth, respectively.

Jenkins won a a 2:44 pin and a 7-3 decision, before falling with a pin in 4:43 in the championship match. Goshert won with a 6-0 decision, a 4-3 decision and a 5-1 decision for third. Smith earned a bye, a 57-second pin and a 3:36 pin. He fell in 1:42 in the third/fourthplace match.

Bryson Shoemaker, 285, and Garrett Latimer, 138, finished in second for Southwest.

Shoemaker won with pins of 46 secons, 1:06 and 1:12. He fell in the championship match in 1:12. Latimer won in 1:04, with a 11-3 decision and in 4:28 before falling 6-2 in the championship.

Mitchel Stritt, 113, and Brett Tryon, 160, finished third in their respectively weight classes. Wins for the wrestlers included pins of 1:22, 26-seconds and 1:24 for Stritt and a bye, 1:21 pin, 2:16 pin and 1:23 pin for Tryon.

Additional point scorers for Southwest included Carter VanPelt, 120, with pins of 5:58 and 1:13, and Clayton Hardy, 220, with a 44-second pin.

Additional point scorers for Cambridge included Karson Klumpe, 113, with a 9-6 pin; Hunter Perks, 138, with a 2:38 pin and a 1:4o pin; Tye Stanton, 152, with a 12-0 decision and a 3:27 pin; and Keithen Huntley, 285, with a 1:18 pin.

Additional point scorers for Arapahoe include Rafe Hill, 132, with a 1:37 pin, 39-second pin and 2:13 pin; and Ashton Downy, 138, with a 5-4 decision and 2:38 pin.
