SOUTHERN VALLEY - The Southern Valley basketball teams took both ends of a girls/boys varsity doubleheader at The Nest last Tuesday.

The Southern Valley girls pulled down a 39-25 win. After a quick 10-5 lead in the first quarter, the Roughriders battled back in the 2nd quarter cutting Southern Valley’s lead to just one point going into half time. After a tight battle in the 3rd, the Eagles were able to pull away by outsourcing the Roughriders 15 to 4 in the last 8 minutes of the game.

The Eagles were led in scoring by Ann Bose with 16 points and 10 steals. Teammates Kynlee Marquez and Brianna Quinn add 8 and 7 points respectively.

Caylin Barnett had 17 points and nine rebounds for Southwest. Brooklyn Clements added six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The Southern Valley boys rolled to a 64-41 victory, led by senior Clayton Berry who scored 25 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and added 3 deflections. Carter Bose added 19 points and 8 rebounds while Colton Burgeson added an additional 7 points.

Although the Roughriders outscored the Eagles, 19-17, in the 3rd quarter, their attempts were not enough to reverse the damage of the Eagle’s offense in the first half, where they built a 29-13 lead at the half.

Hunter Cunningham led a balanced attack with nine points and Nathan Ripee scored seven while Kaden Day added six. Justin Brush pulled down seven rebounds for the Roughriders.
