Trojans upended by Cozad, Loomis
CAMBRIDGE - It wasn’t a great week for offense for the Cambridge girls basketball team.
The Trojans slumped through extended periods of pair of losses to Cozad and Loomis last week that dropped them to 3-3 this season.
Thursday, Cozad jumped on the Trojans early with a 15-point first quarter, then kept Cambridge at arms-length until the fourth quarter.
The lead was 23-17 at the half and 35-28 going to the fourth.
But Cambridge made a small run and had seven different possessions down one or two points in the final three minutes of the fourth.
Cambridge didn’t score on any of those and a free throw with o.6 seconds left sealed the fate.
In the first half, Cambridge was unable to finish around the rim. In the second half, turnovers mounted and the Trojans were unable to get shots up when they had a chance to pull even or take the lead.
Autumn Deterding carried the load as a bright spot offensively with 18 points on 8-for-11. shooting. Paige Klumpe added 10 points, making four of six shots. No one else scored more than four.

Against Loomis, the Wolves jumped out in front in similar fashion, leading 15-10 after a quarter.
Both offenses struggled in the second as Loomis led 20-14 at the half.
