Security First Bank holds second annual Hearts Food Drive

Cozad, Elwood and Overton NE | March 1, 2021 — Security First Bank in Cozad, Elwood and Overton, with the help of their customers and employees, collected over 500 items of food to benefit the Cozad Food Pantry, Gosper County Food Panty and Overton Christian Church Food Pantry through their recently completed “Feeding Hearts” food drive. From February 1st through the 14th, Security First Bank collected canned goods and non-perishable food items at each of their 26 bank branch locations and 12 insurance offices throughout Nebraska and southwest South Dakota.

Maintenance work will begin on N-283, Near Elwood

Weather permitting, a crack seal project will begin March 8 on N-283, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Crack sealing is a process of cleaning and filling open joints and cracks in the surface with sealant to prevent entry of moisture and debris.

The Gosper County Spelling Bee was held on Thursday, February 25 in the EHS Gym. Judges were Sandy Dean, Darin Exstrom and Kilah Deaver. Dennis Seberger was the coordinator and pronouncer. The top 4 spellers from 5th thru 8 grade participated in the Spelling Bee. Placing were 3rd Gavin Tilson - 8 grade, 2 Simon Scharf - 7 grade and 1 was Kara Brockman -6 grade.

GOSPER COUNTY SENIOR CENTER

The Gosper County Senior Center is open for in-house meals. Oh it seems like a long time since we’ve been open! Good to have you back. We are serving 12 or so in house for dinner. Would love to see your smiling face here too. As long as our Gosper County numbers stay down we can remain open. The Gosper County Senior Center will continue to serve meals for delivery or pick-up. We are following the guidelines that WCNAAA has suggested for our Center. If you would like to have a meal to pick up or have a meal delivered please call the Senior Center at 785-2500. Elwood YELP Students Celebrate Success

The YELP (Youth Engaged in Leading People) youth leadership class of 2020/2021 celebrated commencement on Thursday, February 25th, with the successful completion of coursework and a community service project. Class requirements for graduation included learning about leadership skills and community involvement, while planning a service project from beginning to end.
YELP Graduates are Elwood students Brooke Brockman, Lauren Hickey, Shannon Kennicutt, Marissa McClung, and Xandria Pike.

CNPPID Board report on improvement projects

The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District’s board of directors approved participation during Monday’s monthly meeting in a project to improve the boat ramp and access to East Phillips Lake, a small lake along Central’s Supply Canal about four miles east of Johnson Lake.
