100 Years Ago May 5, 1921 The State Railway Commission set May 13 as the date for a hearing for the citizens of Oxford to testify as to the need of electrical signals for the railway crossing at Oxford. Sometime during the dance at the Auditorium on Friday evening someone stole Tom Gupton’s car.

25 Years Ago May 2, 1996 A docudrama, including the rescue departments from Beaver City, Orleans, Oxford and Stamford and the law enforcement agencies of Furnas County and Harlan County, took place Thursday at Southern Valley, bringing the consequences of drunk driving to life with the reenactment of an accident involving a car full of teenagers. Southern Valley Boys break 6 school records; Girls 5 from the RVL Conference Track Meet.

10 years ago Dan Schaben, math instructor at Arapahoe Public Schools, is one of 32 teachers from across Nebraska that has been awarded Robert Noyce National Science Foundation Master Teaching Fellowships by the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Mayor Dale Long of Village of Holbrook discussed the painting of the “Welcome to Holbrook” by Martin Lauer.

10 years ago Country Drawers held an open house and grant opening to debut its new store in Holbrook. Owner Tara Gross moved to Holbrook because there wasn’t enough room for the inventory.

10 years ago The Southwest Girls Track Team is all smiles as they show off the Runner-up trophy they won at the RPAC Contest last Friday at Arapahoe. 20 years ago Will Vrooman and Kari Brooks were crowned King and Queen for 2001 of the Republican Valley Junior Senior Prom Saturday evening, April 28.
