Beaver City Council approves permit for Kiddie City Day Care

The regular City Council meeting was held on May 17, 2021 with Leighton Schmidt (Mayor) presiding. Four Council members (Quinn Barnas, Kevin Harper, Russell Rickert, Becky Robinson)were present and two members (Chris Joppa and Roger Powell) were absent. Others in attendance were Teresa Youngquist (City Clerk), Grant Jorgensen (Utility Superintendent), Ashley Weesner (Miller & Associates), Kaleb Huxoll, Kristyn Bose, Tyler Pettibone (Kiddie City Day Care), Terry Klein (Fire Department), Naomi Russell, Ruth Russell, MacKenzie Podilla (Evangelical Wesleyan Church), and Guyla Mills (Valley Voice).

Cambridge City Council appoints Airport Authority Board; approves American Legion Monument

Cambridge City Council met in regular session on Monday, May 17, 2021. The meeting opened with a public hearing for a Conditional Use Permit Application for a daycare to be opened at 102 Paxton Street in Cambridge. During the hearing Council discussed the Conditional Use Permit and reviewed the 7 requirements for the permit submitted by the applicants. Council Member Kevin Banzhaf also submitted a conflict of interest statement as he is the owner of the property. A clarification was made on the permit as it read in-home daycare, but the property will not be a lived in residence. No public comment was made on the application.

Summer Reading at Orleans Library

Tails and Tales Summer Reading Program will be at the CB Preston Library in Orleans from June 3rd to August 5th, on Thursday from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm. Tails and Tales is an exploration of amazing wildlife and fantastical folktales.

Oxford Board approves sale of property and discusses aquiring another

The Village of Oxford Board of Trustees met on Monday, May 17, 2021 at 7 pm at the Village Office. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Clint McQuiston. Absent from the meeting was trustee Keithen Hamilton. Also present were Clerk Becky Calderone and Public Works Director Duane Hoffman. The board approved the minutes of the April 5 meeting and the May 3 meeting. Claims from May 4 through May 17 were also approved to be paid. There was some question on some of the attorney fees, Calderone will reach out for clarification. The absence of Keithen Hamilton for April 5 was approved. The absence of Mike Minarik for April 5 was approved. The absence of Chad Cunningham from May 3 was approved.

Successful Night at the 4-H Carnival

Games, prizes, a bounce house, cake and ice cream were enjoyed by guests at the 2021 Furnas County 4-H Carnival hosted by the Arapahoe Baby Beef 4-H Club on Saturday, May 15th at the Ella Missing Center. Furnas County 4-H’ers worked hard to sell over 4,500 door prize tickets! Reid Huxoll, selling 459 tickets, and Capri Sayer, selling 594 tickets, were crowned King and Queen of the carnival.
