Cambridge City Council approves old museum as site for selling fireworks; inspection documents submitted showing asbestos in library ceiling

The Cambridge City Council met in regular session on Monday, June 7, 2021. Council Member Tony Groshong was not present for the meeting. A public hearing was held for a Conditional Use Permit for Dean Cope/High-speed Logistics, LLC. There were no comments. A motion was made to accept exhibit 1 as Council’s written exhibit of facts. The motion passed. The Conditional Use Permit was approved. After closing the Public Hearing, Council approved the consent agenda.

Oxford - Reagan Bennett and Trinity Bantam were the recipients of the Oxford Alumni 2021 scholarships. Both attended the Oxford Alumni Banquet on Saturday, May 29. They each took time to speak and let the alumni know what their future plans are. Reagan is in the National Guard going into early childhood education at UNL and Trinity into nursing at UNK.

Oxford - The American Legion and Sons of the American Legion in Oxford held their Memorial Day services at the Oxford Cemetery on Monday, May 31. A nice crowd was present despite road conditions due to a rainy weekend. The speaker was Pastor Brian Jenkins of the Oxford First Baptist Church. Singers were Scott Fisher and Marty Mitchell. Announcer Mike Quinn honored several American Legion members with many years of membership, one being Paul Trenchard, WWII veteran who was in attendance. There was also a flyover by Royce Bose in his 1946 airplane.

Tasting Tea Long Standing Turkey Days Tradition

The Tasting Tea, now held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oxford, might not have started with Turkey Days, but has become a tradition. Started by the extension clubs, the first one was held in the shcool gym in 1968.
