SV Board Approves Covid protocol

The Southern Valley Board of Education met on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 8 pm. They opened the public hearings for the budget and tax request. Superintendent Bryce Jorgenson said valuations have gone up and property taxes are high on homes and ag land. Both hearings were closed with no public comment.

The Village of Oxford Board of Trustees met on Thursday, September 9 for special meetings beginning at 6:30 pm. After public hearings were opened and closed with no public comment for budget, CRA and tax request the regular business meeting was opened.

This summer really didn’t see many days of 100+ temps - until these last few days. Mother Nature saved them for this last week. The lack of moisture and those hot temps have really taken a toll on everything, crops, pastures, gardens, lawns, flowers. Rain at this point really won’t do much good for any of the above but it would at least settle the dust and put the ground in better condition for wheat drilling.

McCook, Nebraska—Matthew Shupe, D.O., a physician specializing in medical oncology and hematology from North Platte, begins seeing patients at Community Hospital’s Medical Specialists Center this month. Dr. Shupe is in practice fulltime at the Callahan Cancer Center at Great Plains Health in North Platte and will see patients in McCook once a week. New patients must be seen in North Platte at the Callahan Cancer Center to establish care (308-568-7386). All follow up visits can be scheduled in McCook by calling the Community Hospital Central Scheduling office at 308-344-8285.

Southwest School Board approves new, innovative security camera system

INDIANOLA - The Southwest Board of Education met Monday night to approve its annual budget and task request as well as to discuss and approve new security cameras at both campuses. After waiting approximately 30 minutes for a quorum, the Board held its hearings for the 2021-22 budget and tax request before approving the budget and tax request in new business.

LINCOLN, Neb., Sept. 9, 2021 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is now accepting applications for the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP). This voluntary program provides funding for the purchase of conservation easements to help productive farm and ranch land remain in agriculture and to restore and protect critical grassland and wetlands.
