25 Years Ago August 29, 1996 Hazel Noel celebrated her 100th birthday on Monday with family and friends. The Furnas County Sheriff’s Department cleared a rash of thefts that had been occurring in recent weeks in Arapahoe.

10 years ago Valuations for the Arapahoe school district including Furnas, Gosper, and Frontier Counties according to county assessors is $227,467,406.00. This is up $16 million from last year’s valuation of $210,933,410.00.

10 years ago Friends and family gathered last Wednesday evening to welcome home Jonathan Paisley, who had been stationed in the Middle East. Paisley was led through downtown Cambridge on a caravan.

10 years ago Janet Reflor was presented her four-gallon pin by Thelma Kaps. The donors helped to exceed the 44 goal by three donors.

10 years ago Four miles west of Benkelman, the old Doane grain elevator was being dismantled. The Amtrak train running far behind schedule due to a previous mishap in Nevada, was not expected by the workers who were using a crane to take it down.

A card shower has been requested in honor of Karen Paisley’s birthday on September 7th. Cards will reach her at 40877 Highway 6/34, Cambridge NE 69022.

Dave and Chris Urbom would like to thank you for all the cards and messages upon our retirements. We truly appreciate them and your thoughtfulness, there were many wonderful memories recalled. We feel blessed to have been able to serve the people of our area.

The Sons of The American Legion, Squadron 343, Edison, met on August 26. The meeting began with a right-hand salute to the American Flag.

Thursday, September 2: Tator tot casserole, green beans, pears, banana muffin. Friday, September 3: Ham ball, sweet potatoes, pea salad, peach cobbler.
