ARAPAHOE – During th monthly meeting on December 13, 2021, the board held an executive session to discus teacher salaries for the 2022-2023 school year. Board members met with members of the Arapahoe Education Association (AEA) earlier this month to discuss negotiations.

BARTLEY – Prior to the village board meeting, two public hearings were held in Bartley on December 14, 2021. Jenny Kozal represented Street Superintendent Chris Miller of Miller & Associates during the 1&6 Year Street Improvement Public Hearing.

LINCOLN, Neb. – Preliminary Nebraska deer check-in numbers indicate statewide harvest is down 12 percent compared to 2020 for the November firearm season. During the nine-day season, 37,053 deer were harvested, compared to 42,078 in 2020.

ELWOOD – With two school board members absent and one of the members in attendance not feeling well, the January 13, 2021 school board meeting was shorter than usual. Several agenda items were tabled, and the meeting was adjourned after 15 minutes.

Thomas McHale, M.D. (CHS 2008) graduated in June 2021 from the Internal Medicine Residency at Einstein Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY. His residency class had the unique experience of serving at “ground zero” during the Covid 19 outbreak of 2020, when Montefiore in the Bronx became a fully Covid hospital, almost doubling its patient capacity. The young doctors experienced an unprecedented testing of their skills, stamina, ingenuity and compassion, under extreme conditions.

The Cambridge School Board met in regular session on Monday, December 13, 2021. Board Member Amy Sines was absent. Gracelynn tenBensel-McConville and Quintin Shaner were guests. That was no public comment. The Board then approved the agenda and the minutes from the previous meeting.

Tri Valley Health System Advanced Wound Care is having a sock drive for area people in need. Pairs of new socks can be dropped off now through January 6 in the front entryway at Tri Valley Health System. Socks are the most requested items in the winter for those less fortunate and providing clean, new socks helps prevent foot-related health complications. There are numerous health problems that can result from not having or wearing socks. Bony parts of the foot can become irritated if socks aren’t worn. Friction leads to thickened skin, which results in painful calluses and corns. Socks provide warmth and help minimize the constriction of blood vessels, which makes toes susceptible to damage by the cold. Severe frostbite can result in amputation. Some people lose nerve function and cannot feel thickened skin or irritations. If this skin breaks down, it can cause a non-healing wound called an ulcer. December 7, 2021 (McCook, Neb.) — Weather permitting, a crack seal project will begin December 14 on US-136, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Crack sealing is a process of cleaning and filling open joints and cracks in the surface with sealant to prevent entry of moisture and debris.
