HAYES CENTER - The Southwest boys basketball team dropped its first two games of the season, facing off against two of the top teams in the RPAC. Thursday, the Roughriders hung around for a while, but Medicine Valley blew the game open late in the second quarter and rolled to a 61-37 victory.

CAMBRIDGE - The Cambridge girls basketball team tipped off to a 2-0 start to the season, earning a road victory at Hitchcock County Thursday before returning home for a hard-fought win over Wauneta-Palisade on Friday.

HAYES CENTER - The Southwest girls basketball teams split their first two contest, taking battles with Frontier County opponents to the fourth quarter, but getting different outcomes. Thursday, the Roughriders struggled offensively to shake free from visiting Medicine Valley until a 15-point fourth quarter blew open a 43-24 win.

ARAPAHOE - The Arapahoe boys and girls bowling team opened their seasons with victories last week. The boys team defeated Superior 15-6 while the girls team bested the Wildcats 12-9. Each team competes against Southern Valley Friday.

Facing quality competition and four games in six days, the Southern Valley boys basketball team dropped its first three games of the season, falling to Minden 62-19 on Thursday before dropping a 44-22 decision to Elm Creek on Friday. The Eagles also fell to Gothenburg Monday, 66-35.

Deespite a difficult opening loss and four games in six days to start the season, the Southern Valley girls basketball team has used defense to win two of its first four games, including a 39-24 victory at Cambridge Tuesday.

The Southern Valley wrestling team took part in two challenging invites to beging the season, finishing seventh at Ravenna Friday with 77 team points while taking seventh with 68.5 points Saturday at Broken Bow.

MULLEN - The Southwest wrestling team took fourth place at the 17-team Mullen Bronco Invite. The Roughriders had four medalists, including champions Carter Van Pelt and Jacob Kerns, scoring 85 points at the meet.

With a score of 780, the Arapahoe/Cambridge Unified Bowling Team finished district runner-up at the District B-5 Tournamnet, falling to Lexington, which scored 891. McCook was thrid, Southern Valley was fourth and South Loup was fifth.

ELWOOD - The Arapahoe wrestling team medaled eight individuals and finished runner-up with 139 points at the Hi-Line Invite Friday in Elwood. Cambridge medaled five individuals and scored 105 points to finish fourth and Hi-Line scored 77 points to take eighth, medaling four.
