SV Board looks at reduction of staff policy for high school admin

Body
During the Southern Valley Board of Education meeting on Monday, January 10 at 11 am the board heard about the reduction of staff policy in regards to reducing the number of administrators on the High School side. This was brought up during Superintendent Bryce Jorgenson’s report. He said he had been asked about this by the board about a year ago. Jorgenson said when this is done it usually pertains to teachers and the policy is more for that. In order to do this, they have to use the policy. He told the board they will have to vote, but not at this meeting. Jorgenson will also have to work to do on his end. Neither the activities director nor high school principal have tenure, and both started the same year. He also said in fairness to them both they need to start now.

The Oxford Depot

Body
The Oxford depot still sits in the village of Oxford, Nebraska. I remember taking the train out of that depot back in 1965 to go to Bible college in New York state. It has served the community for many years and now is only used for Burlington Railroad workers to operate out of. Back in 2017 Oxford became the an important news story after Taylor Michael Wilson brought an Amtrak passenger train hurtling to a halt when he breached a restricted area and trigger the emergency brakes. Mr. Wilson is now in a federal prison. In fact, I write to him each month. There is also a picture of the Burlington Hotel that existed at one time in Oxford.
