100 Years Ago March 2, 1922 Another important chapter in the successful history of the Blue Valley mercantile company was written last week when the final arrangements were completed for opening a bit branch house at Oxford. The progressive people of the town led by the Commercial Club, raised enough funds to furnish a desirable site.

25 Years Ago February 20, 1997 Southern Valley participated in the District C-4 Wrestling Meet in Bridgeport on Saturday and qualified five for the state wrestling tournament this weekend: Tyler Powell (112), Caleb Quinn (119), Brett Hammond (130), Frank Lamb (140) and Mike Stalder (145). Pastor Bob Schaffer of the Grace Brethren Church in Beaver City shared experiences of his recent trip to Israel.

Each of the five area boys basketball teams saw their seasons come to a close early this week at subdistrict tournaments. At the Subdistrict D1-9 Tournament in Loomis, Southern Valley took down Arapahoe on opening night, 59-49, as the Eagles jumped to a big early lead, then held on down the stertch for victory.

CAMBRIDGE - Through a back-and-forth first half, it was anyone’s game at the break as Cambridge and Southwest squared off in the Subdistrict D1-12 Championship Thursday in Cambridge. But a strong third quarter proved to be the difference for Cambridge, which outscored the Roughriders 18-8 in the third period and rolled away to a 58-45 victory, securing a berth in Friday’s district finals.
