Governor Pete Ricketts appointed Morgan Farquhar of Cambridge as District Court Judge in the Tenth Judicial District. The Tenth District consists of Adams, Clay, Franklin, Harlan, Kearney, Nuckolls, Phelps, and Webster counties.

LINCOLN – A bill that would limit the scope of easements was heard before the Judiciary Committee on February 11, 2022. Legislative Bill 1135, introduced by Sen. Dave Murman (Dist. 38), would put a time limit of 99 years on easements before they would have to be purchased again to continue. At the present time, easements are held in perpetuity in Nebraska. GOTHENBURG - In the inaugural season of High School Girls Wrestling in Nebraska, the Southwest girls wrestling team will send a competitor to State. With pins of top-seeded Amelia Jacobsen of Minden and Isabell Gomez of Hemingford, the Roughriders’ Ashlynn Latimer secured a spot in Saturday’s district championship match.

KEARNEY - After an opening round loss to Pender at Saturday’s NSAA State Dual Meet, the Arapahoe wrestling team bounced back with consecutive wins over Alma and Ravenna to finish fifth at the event.

Boys District Wrestling Meets take place this weekend with four of area teams assigned to the District D1 Meet in Maxwell, while Southwest was assigned to the District D3 Meet in Burwell. Wrestling begins Fridat afternoon and wraps up with the bulk of the meets on Saturday.

Though official pairings were not set to be released until Thursday, area teams will compete in Girls Subdistrict Basketball Tournaments beginning on Tuesday. At the C2-10 Subdistrict, Amherst should be the top seed and host and will open against fourth-seeded Hi-Line while Southern Valley will battle South Loup in the other semifinal.

BARTLEY - Southern Valley finished fifth, Cambridge took sixth and Southwest was eighth at the 16-team Southwest Invite Saturday. The Eagles scored 100.5 points and edged Cambridge by a half-point for fifth while Southwest scored 65 points at the tournament.

AMHERST - The Hi-Line wrestling team medaled two of its four competitiors and finished 11th out of 16 teams at the Fort Kearny Conference and Twin Valley Conference Tournament in Amherst last week. The Bulls’ Syrus Snow led the team with a second-place finish at 285 pounds, going 2-1 on the day.

The Southern Valley boys basketball team split a pair of games over the weekend, takig down Alma on the road before falling at South Loup. At Alma, Southern Valley took a 44-36 victory behind 22 points from Matt Henderson and 12 more from Kamden Bose as the Eagles made that offense stand up by holding the Cardinals to 36 points in the contest.
