Elwood School Board Approves Raises for Hourly Staff

ELWOOD – During the March 14 regular meeting, the school board approved a 3.45% raise for classified hourly staff (paras, custodians, cooks) for the 2022-2023 year. The board also approved the contract for Beth Fisher (Family Consumer Science).

American Legion-Auxiliary #290 Elwood honored Legion member Murl Tiede with a Quilt of Valor. Murl served during the Vietnam Era and was in the U.S Air Force. His wife, son, grandson and daughter-in-law were present at the March 7th ceremony.

GOSPER COUNTY SENIOR CENTER

The Gosper County Senior Center is in full swing and has coffee drinkers in at 8:30, pool-players in the midmorning, exercise machines that are in motion, a puzzle on the table, domino game to get started after lunch and of course great noon dinners for you to enjoy with friendly neighbors. The staff will continue to make your visit here, either while participating in the activities or eating our noon meal, as positive and enjoyable as can be. Thanks for your support.

2022 Nebraska Fish Art Contest Open for Entries

Students in kindergarten through 12th grade can discover the outdoors by participating in the third annual Nebraska Fish Art Contest. This international art and writing competition gives young people the opportunity to highlight their artistic talents while learning about fish, fishing and aquatic conservation.

4-h Speaking Contest held Monday

Five 4-Hers and Clover Kids took part in the Furnas County Public Speaking Contest Monday at the Ella Missing Center in Arapahoe. Those participating were Clover Kids (front row) Silas Gerlach and Hadley Gerlach and 4-Hers (back row from left) Micah Gerlach, Asher Gerlach and Dakota Deterding. Three Furnas County 4-H’ers are now eligible to compete at the state level in Lincoln on June 24th including senior division veteran, Micah Gerlach with his speech “Lessons along the 4-H Journey”, Asher Gerlach with his speech “They Made Me Get Back Up Here”, and Dakota Deterding with her speech “My Year with Pigs”. Congratulations to all three purple ribbon winners. The competition in the Clover Kid division was just as impressive. Silas Gerlach’s speech “Jokes with Silas” and Hadley Gerlach’s speech “We Can Afford a Pony” earned them both rainbow Clover Kid ribbons.
