Ronni Harding Celebrates 10 years as Bartley Village Clerk

Immediately following the Bartley Board of Trustees meeting on April 12, 2022, the Village Board surprised their longtime village clerk, Ronni Harding, with a 10-year plaque and celebratory cake. Harding, who worked as a librarian before beginning her tenure as village clerk, says she enjoys serving her community and is looking forward to many more years of service in her present position.

USDA Disaster Assistance Workshop for Producers Impacted by Wildfires Set for April 19 in Arapahoe

Lincoln, Nebraska, April 12, 2022 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Service Centers in Dawson/Gosper and Furnas counties are hosting a disaster assistance workshop on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Ella Missing Community Center in Arapahoe. The meeting is intended for farmers, ranchers and rural landowners impacted by the recent wildfire in the Gosper/Furnas County area. The event is open to the public.

4-H Meat Science with Southern Valley Agriculture Class

Mrs. Reiman’s 8 grade agriculture class at Southern Valley learned all about the Meat Science Industry as they engaged in 4-H Youth Meat Science Curriculum facilitated by 4-H Educator, Elena Stout. This two-part lesson series consisted of students exploring how to calculate percent yield of a carcass, byproducts that are used from the parts of the animal not considered meat, how to read meat product food labels, and best practices for maintaining food safety. This exciting collaboration between the Southern Valley ag program and Nebraska Extension helps students to better understand how they are impacted by the livestock industry every day and allows them to explore different careers in meat science.

4-H Carnival held April 2nd

Games, prizes, a bounce house, cake, and ice cream were enjoyed by guests at the 2022 Furnas County 4-H Carnival hosted by the Cambridge Workers and Silver Spurs 4-H Clubs on Saturday, April 2 at the Ella Missing Center in Arapahoe. Furnas County 4-H’ers worked hard to sell raffle tickets for over 500 door prizes donated by several Furnas County businesses. The boy and girl who sold the most tickets were crowned King and Queen of the 4-H Carnival. Selling 512 tickets and crowned King was Brayden Soucie and selling 900 tickets and crowned Queen was Aislynn Jauken. Congratulations to Brayden and Aislynn who will each be receiving a $100 scholarship to a county or state 4-H camp of their choice!

Farm Service Agency Encourages Producers to Complete Certification of Grazing Land Acres

Beaver City, Nebraska, April 11, 2022 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Furnas County Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Dillon Breinigis reminding producers that annual acreage reporting is an important eligibility requirement to receive financial benefits through the Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP), as well as a number of other FSA-administered programs.

The State FCCLA Leadership Conference, April 3rd through the 5th, brought 890 students to Lincoln, Nebraska to compete at a shot at Nationals and to come together as leaders of America. All students had the opportunity to engage in various youth breakout sessions revolving around family consumer science topics, take part in the opportunity fair, and tour Lincoln.

Cambridge boys, girls finish runner-up at Don Stine Invite

CAMBRIDGE - The best weather of the early track season brought out the best performances thus far as four local teams competed at the Don Stine Invite in Cambridge Saturday. The Cambridge boys and girls team collected runnerup finishes in the team races as each finished second to dominant performances from Chase County.
