With over 60 in attendance, the Cambridge Alumni Banquet was held Sunday evening with food, entertainment and fellowship. Joann Taylor of Hillsboro, Oregon, traveled the farthest and won The Valley Voice 1 year subscription. The oldest attending graduate was Lloyd Frandsen. He won a Town Talk Gift certificate. Charla Mehaffie won the Cambridge High School adult activity pass. Finally, the 2022 Alumni Association Scholarship was awarded to senior Paige Klumpe. The event was hosted by the class of 1993.

FROG CLASS

FROG (Fitness Reaching Older Generations) classes are held Tuesday and Fridays in Cambridge at the Congregational Church from 9:30 am – 10:30 am. “No requirements, come and have fun.” Call Marty Teter at 308-697-4299 with any questions.

Tri Valley Health System honors nurses with the DAISY award

Nurses at Tri Valley Health System are being honored with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses ®. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate nursing care they provide patients and families every day.

Southwest High School Alumni Banquet

The Southwest Alumni Banquet was held Saturday, May 28 at Southwest High School in Bartley for alumni from any of the schools that consolidated to make up Southwest. There were about 50 in attendance. Since they had not met for the past two years, there were three honor classes this year, 1970, 1971, and 1972. Attending from the Beaver Valley Class of 1971 was Cheryl Hess Bales. Julia Burke Renich (Bartley) and Gloria Larson Godtel and Diana Nicholson Johnson (both from Beaver Valley) were in attendance to represent the Class of 1972. Elnora Burke, representing the Bartley Class of 1945, was recognized as the attendee from the earliest class. President Gary Newcomb led the business meeting. Officers for next year are president, Ed Witt; vice president, Gary Newcomb; secretary, Cheryl Bales; and treasurer, Loretta Carpenter. Carol Kelley presented a video slideshow of pictures from the past three years of activities at Southwest Schools.Next year's banquet will be held at Southwest High School on Saturday, May 27 with social hour at 5:00, followed by the meal at 6:00.

Norma G. Brooks, age 93, of Indianola, NE passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022, in McCook, NE. Norma was born May 7, 1929, in Curtis, NE to parents Fred T. and Mae Elizabeth (Grous) Hicks. She was one of three siblings who grew up in Curtis where she also attended school. Following high school, in 1946, Norma attended the Curtis Ag School before attending McCook College for one year. Norma then taught school in the Schmitz District, west of Maywood for one year. On November 8, 1947, Norma married Junior D. Brooks of Bartley, NE. They were blessed with three children: Larry, Lonnie, and Lori. They spent their life on their farm south of Indianola, NE.

The Funeral Service for Betty J. Wright was held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Betty’s son-in-law, Pastor Steve Breazier officiating. Interment followed at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Nebraska.
