Three Arapahoe Scouts, Thomas Magorian, Landen and Adellyn Hoefs, spent the past week learning how to become better leaders at National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). Scout leader, Stefanie Hoefs, also attended as an assistant course director. The intense leadership training teaches many skills involved with being a leader, including setting SMART goals, creating visions, communication, teamwork and more. They put their new knowledge to the test as they raced each other in games of lashings and learning how to work together as a team. They were put into patrols with other scouts they didn’t know, which added to the challenge of working together. In addition to leadership, they also brushed up on many scout related skills, including cooking, knot tying, GPS, and first aid. All three scouts enjoyed meeting new people and learning the new skills. Next year, Stefanie will be a course director for NYLT and the youth who have completed the course will have an opportunity to teach the next round of scouts! NYLT was held June 26-July 1 at Camp Cornhusker, which is a Scouts BSA camp south of Humboldt, NE.
