by Steve Sturtevant Irene Brooks was born November 6, 1808 in Rockport, Massachusetts, daughter of Reuben and Mary Hadley Brooks. At the age of 24 she was united in marriage to Joseph L. Sturtevant. She was a devoted wife, sharing the moments of joy and contentment and the years of heartache and uncertainty with her husband and their children at her side. She was deeply interested in the welfare of her own soul. She read extensively and prayed fervently.

After a visit about aches, pains and various medical issues, a patient was commenting on getting older. Similar to other patients, I expected him to say something like, “It’s no fun getting older.” To my surprise, the patient said, “I’m 85. That means I have a lot to be thankful for.”
