LINCOLN - For the first 15 minutes or so of Southwest’s opening round game at the Class C2 State Volleyball Tournament last Thursday, it looked as if only one team was taking the match seriously. Arapahoe-Cambridge Unified Bowling off to strong start

Body
ARAPAHOE - The Arapahoe-Cambridge Unified Bowling team is off to a strong start this season and will be hosting a pair of competitions next week. Unified bowling is a club sport sponsored by the Nebraska School Activities Association that pairs athletes from schools’ special education departments with peers that are not. Bowling teams made up of three people - one athlete from the special education unit and two partners that are not. The three alternate frames and work together for a total game score. Schools or coops, like Arapahoe and Cambridge have done for the past several years, can have as many teams as they want, though some tournaments limit participation. The district tournament allows only one team. “Unified bowling is a great sport,” Coach Angie Moore said. “It’s designed for the athlete to learn social interaction and to be a part of a team while teaching the partners inclusion and understanding that there are people different than them. We have so much fun.”
