INDIANOLA - The Indianola City Council met briefly Monday to debate a livestock ordinance that would potentially allow horses among other items of discussion. After approval of the minutes and the claims, Patrick Minary addressed the Council in public forum about what he called his destitute house. He said he has wanted to work with the fire department about doing a controlled or practice burn. He said he understands that they would need to wait until the weather permits for a controlled burn, but he said he is needing some recommendations for a construction company to assist in knocking it down. To show progress on the property, he said he would try to get the outshed knocked down and an asbestos assessment would be completed soon if it hadn’t been done Monday. Councilman Travis Herrman said that as long as --- can show progress, the Council will work with him on the timeline. The Council considered a preliminary Ordinance No. 519. The ordinance calls for no horses on a lot smaller than three acres, but Herrman said he would like to see a limit of one horse per acre with no more than three horses, regardless of the lot size. Other concerns were raised about opening a door to other livestock requests because horses are considered livestock. It was agreed that consent needs to be gained from adjacent homeowners.
