Tri Valley Health System preventing Type 2 Diabetes with proven program

Tri Valley Health System is helping community members prevent type 2 diabetes with a lifestyle change program called Healthier Me. Guided by Tri Valley Health System Dietitian Nutritionist Tonya Koeppen and Physical Therapist Assistant Deidra Broadfoot, groups of participants will learn the skills they need to make lasting changes such as losing a modest amount of weight, becoming more physically active, and managing stress.

The Southern Valley Board of Education re-elected the same officers from the previous year during their meeting on Monday, January 9 at noon. Officers are Ryan Hunt, president; Steve Hunt, vice president; Todd Brown, secretary; Craig Baily, treasurer.
The Southern Valley Junior High Quiz Bowl team competed in Arapahoe on Monday, January 9 where they went 4 - 4. The Elementary team also competed in Arapahoe on Monday where they took second place.

Community Hospital Kicking Off Healthy Heart Initiative

McCook, Neb.—Healthy Heart Initiative, a new program offered by Community Hospital to help educate adults on ways to prevent a possible heart event in their lives begins in January. The program is tailored for attendees who have risk factors for heart disease. A physician referral is required to register. Beginning January 23, it includes six classes every Monday and Thursday, from 6 to 7:30 PM for three weeks at Community Hospital.

“The Other Skin Cancer”

When people talk about skin cancer the type that most people think about is melanoma. This skin cancer follows the ABCDE rules for diagnosis. A – Asymmetry, B – irregular Border, C – more than 1 Color, D – Diameter more than 6 mm, and E – expanding in size. However, these rules will not help find the most common type of skin cancer called a basal cell carcinoma.
