Arapahoe pulls pair of comebacks at Med Valley

CURTIS - The Arapahoe girls and boys basketball teams both overcame doubledigit deficits to post road wins at Medicine Valley Friday night. The girls team rallied back from an awful start and a 14-1 hole after a quarter to claim a 52-47 victory over the Raiders while the boys team scored 25 in the fourth quarter to erase a 10-point deficit and take a 61-60 triumph.
Arapahoe’s Cooper Wendland scored 14 to lead the Warriors at Medicine Valley Friday.

AMHERST - Area athletes won 14 medals and took three individual chmpionships at the Amherst Invite Saturday, a meet that included four of the top Class D teams in the State as well as a number fo rated Class B and C wrestlers. Cambridge’s Dierks Sayer (126), Southern Valley’s Cole Broeker (145) and Hi-Line’s Drew Knoerzer (285) each won individual championships while six others - Cambridge’s Micah Gerlach (106), Jacob Corbett (138), Adam Corbett (145) and Hunter Perks (285), Southern Valley’s Braxton Hammond (113) and Hi-Line’s Parker Schutz (120) - each finished runnerup.
Southern Valley’s Braxton Hammond raises Clarkson/Leigh’s Morgan Brunner up onto his shoulders before completing a takedown. Hammond finished runner-up at the meet.

An open house was held for Trish Day at the First Central Bank in Arapahoe on Thursday, December 29th. Trish has served over 35 years at the bank and is celebrating her retirement. Among those helping her celebrate were Clinton Olmsted, Daphna and Pete Stagemeyer.

Kerry Scott New District 7 Operations & Maintenance Manager

Jan. 6, 2023 (Lincoln, Neb.) — The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) announced that Kerry Scott has been promoted to the District 7 Operations & Maintenance Manager based in McCook. District 7 encompasses 13 counties in southwest Nebraska with responsibilities for 1,029 miles of state highways.

American Legion Post/ Unit #290 from Elwood, NE proudly participated in the 2022 Wreaths Across America campaign on December 17, 2022. Elwood participated with the National program that is held every year on the 3rd Saturday of December at 11:00 am. The ceremony is usually held at Elwood cemetery but with the bitter temperatures it was held at the Pfeiffer-Morgan-Legion Hall. Elwood Honor Guard, Patriot Riders, Post and Unit members were in charge of the program. Auxiliary members held a coloring contest that Wreaths Across America provided. Pinnacle Bank in Elwood sponsored three $25 gift cards for the winners of the 3rd,4th, and 5th grades at Elwood School. Data shows that 10% of drivers are distracted

January 4, 2023 (Lincoln, Neb.) – The NDOT Highway Safety Office used new digital technology to measure the number of distracted drivers in Nebraska. Results showed that 1 in 10 drivers you meet on the road are not looking where they are driving, but instead are focusing on a cell phone or other device!
