CAMBRIDGE - The latest honorees of Cambridge alumni were the first from the field of agriculture. Ed and Marilyn Kester received the Distinguished Alumni recognition at a school assembly Friday, receiving their award, then speaking briefly to the school in the auditorium before deferring to their son, Ken, to finish the address.

Loiette Lorraine Larabee 87, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2023 with her loving husband of 67 years, Jared Larabee, by her bedside. She was born December 2, 1935 in Edison Nebraska. She was the daughter of the late Chester and Grayce Johnson and was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Johnson.

Ellen Delores Barlow, age 90, of Trenton passed away at the El Dorado Manor in Trenton, NE., on February 27, 2023. She was born along with her twin brother Allen, on their grandparent’s farm, south of Culbertson on May 12, 1932, to Thomas and Dorothy “Lena” (Cole) Anderson. Ellen attended school and graduated from Trenton High School in 1950.

Anastasia Petersen, aged 85, passed away February 28th, 2023 in Elwood, Nebraska. Anastasia Minnick Petersen was born on September 15th, 1937 to Dr. Clarence Minnick and Ruth Marples Minnick at the Republican Valley Hospital in Cambridge, NE. Annie grew up in the basement of the old Republican Valley Hospital where her parents worked. She always said that the entire town of Cambridge kept an eye on her, and she couldn’t get away with anything!

Donna Mae Frandsen age 90, of Oberlin, KS, formerly of Cambridge passed away at the Community Hospital of McCook on Sunday, March 5, 2023. Funeral Services are pending.

Everett Marsden Garey died peacefully February 28, 2023, at the age of 89 years in Omaha. Everett, often called Marsden, will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Everett’s sense of humor always made him a joy to be around.

LINCOLN - The calling card of the Southern Valley girls basketball team has been defense for a few seasons now. In the Eagles’ first round contest at the Class C2 State Basketball Tournament, their defense struggled for stops and it led to an early exit as Guardian Angels Central Catholic pulled away in the second half for a 67-46 victory.
