Norma Jean Kasson, 94, of North Platte, NE and formerly of Wilsonville and McCook, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Linden Court. She was born on October 13, 1928 in Overton, NE the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Eliker) Wilson.

Melva Ruth Hughbanks, age 103, of Elwood, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Elwood Care Center, Elwood, Nebraska. She was born to James and Alice (Musser) Pierce on April 11, 1919 on a farm north of Overton, Nebraska.

An intelligent and courageous woman, Kristi K. Thulin, 60, of Corpus Christi passed away February 13, 2023, surrounded by family at PAM Health Specialty Hospital.

BARTLEY - The Southwest Board of Education met Monday to approve a compensation raise for his drivers, accept a pair of staff resignations and to discuss the superintendent transition with new superintendent Drew Billeter, who was on hand as a visitor at the meeting.

Several teachers and students were in attendance for the March 13 Arapahoe Public School Board meeting even though Monday marked the first day of spring break. During the meeting, the board voted to purchase a lowmileage 12-passenger 2020 Chevrolet van from Faw’s Motors.

Competing in Lincoln, Ne on February 10-12, 2023 at Solid Rock Gymnastics, Horizon set the bar high for their competition. Taking the floor against 13 competing teams, the gymnasts came out and set the gym on fire. Teams from Beatrice, Corning,IA, Plattesmouth, York, Adams ,Columbus, Clarkson, Oakland, Norfolk, Ord, Lincoln(2), and Alma were entered in the AmeriKids CHALK IT UP CLASSIC. This event was hosted by Pioneer Gymnastics Academy , out of Lincoln, NE. Horizon Gymnastics from Holdrege, Ne with competitors from a large area around the city, came home with a truckload of awards. Horizon had 15 ALL AROUND CHAMPIONS,

As part of the Harlan/Furnas Farm Bureau Federation outreach, the board approved to donate $200 to both the Furnas County and Harlan County 4-H programs. Checks were presented to Furnas/Harlan Extension Educator, Rebecca Dahlgren for the 2023 4-H programs.
