March brought some of its traditional winds, but April has been quite generous in that department. It was right at a year ago that similar winds fanned our nasty fires. April is a critical time for chances of fires. The wheat and grass aren’t showing much green, and the field and pasture vegetation is dry as a bone. Your local fire chiefs remind us that there should be no open burning.

Students from 14 area high schools at MCC for Inter-High Day scholastic contest

Students from 14 area high schools were at McCook Community College Wednesday to take part in the annual Inter-High Day scholastic competition with more than $30,000 in scholarships at stake. Perkins County finished first among large schools, Hitchcock County topped the field in mid-sized schools and Eustis-Farnam placed first among small schools.

CAMBRIDGE - The Cambridge Ministerial Association held its Easter Egg Hunt Saturday afternoon at the Cambridge McKinley Park, mixing the fun of the hunt with other activities as well as messages on the meaning of Easter hidden in the eggs. Other Easter egg hunts are scheduled for this week and more information on Holy Week services throughout the area can be found inside.
