Furnas County has hired a private company to appraise commercial property, citing insuffi cient property sales as the motivator, the county assessor, Sherry Thooft, said. Central Plains Valuation is a mass appraisal company based in Omaha.

Bike Ride Across Nebraska Tours South-Central Area

The 41st annual Bike Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN) began Sunday, June 4th, going through South-Central Nebraska for the first time on a shorter route. BRAN officials chose a southern route this year beginning in Benkelman and ending in Ashland.

West downs East at CSO All-Star Basketball games

The 2023 CSO All-Star games took place on Friday, May 26th. On the girls’ side, the West team won in overtime by two points. The west girls got an early lead, almost doubling the east girls’ score in the first quarter. However, the east girls slowly chipped away at that daunting lead and took a small lead in the third quarter. By the end of the fourth quarter, however, the game was tied. Coaches Lowther and McNair for the west and Schuett and Gilson for the east prepared their teams for overtime. The girls fought back and forth, but when the clock ran down, the West won 70 to 68.

Schutz receives Michael S. Turner scholarship

Cooper Schutz, a senior majoring in Agribusiness at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, was awarded the Michael S. Turner $2,500 scholarship given by the Nebraska Cooperative Council Education Foundation.

Food truck fridays in edison

Summer Happenings in Edison will be Food Truck Fridays. The schedule for this is as follows: June 16: Lone Wolf BBQ June 23: Braxton’s Smokehouse June 30: Hangries LLC July 7: Tacos Y Salsas Los Forasteros Trucks will be paked on 1st street south of Edison City Building. Serving starts at 5:00 p.m.

Arapahoe Area Foundation and Gala Committee presents check

The Arapahoe Area Foundation along with the Arapahoe Gala Committee presented the Arapahoe-Holbrook Public Schools with a check of $37,850 from the Gala Event held in April. These funds will go towards helping the school complete a new additional playground area for older children. This will be located east of the basketball courts with plans for completion by the beginning of the school year in August.
