Arapahoe Council approves Economic Development Contract

Body
The Arapahoe City Council approved a new Economic Development contract with Bobbi Pettit and 5 Rule during their meeting on July 25th. The new contract has an increase in hours from 20 hours to 26 hours per month. The new contract will be $31,200 per year (the old contract was $20,000 per year). Pettit told the board she feels like they have been working well and have been strategic with their time. She also doesn’t want them to stop the progress made and continue on with new projects. Mayor Jon Koller reminded the board of when they were looking at hiring a full time economic developer and feels they are still ahead of what that would have cost. He also said they have seen some success, but economic development is hard to gauge. The council also approved contributing a total of $6500 to Try-Valley Transportation. The previous contribution had been $4380 per year. This total will include the ACE contribution. Council heard from Joyce Deaver on the numbers of the service and the increases in costs and the number of rides they provide. Their budget is every two years and went from $182,000 to $385,000. The number of rides went from 940 to 1600 in two years.

Intern Appreciation Day

Last week, the Nebraska delegation dedicated our weekly Nebraska Breakfast, where we meet with fellow Nebraskans visiting our country’s capital, to thanking our interns. This summer, my Washington office was glad to have Emalie, Jack, Justin, and Madison join us in serving the people of Nebraska.

Fixing our broken passport system

Body
Providing oversight of the federal government is a critical part of my job as a United States Senator. From pushing back on illegal new mandates to fighting wasteful spending, there is a lot of important work to do. And while the Biden administration is failing on many policy matters, it’s also failing its responsibility to provide basic constituent services like passports in a reasonable time – and Americans are paying the price.

Standing up for second amendment rights

Body
Defending our constitutional rights is our fundamental duty and special privilege as Americans. The north entrance of Nebraska’s State Capitol Building is engraved with words coined by philosopher and Capitol thematic consultant Hartley Burr Alexander, “The Salvation of the State is Watchfulness in the Citizen.” Vigilance to secure our rights is no more important for any other right than it is for our Second Amendment.
