At any time of year, a slow cooker can make life a little more convenient because by planning ahead, you save time later. Opening the front door on a cold winter evening and being greeted by the inviting smells wafting from a slow cooker can be a diner’s dream come true.

Government should be open, effective, and responsive. It should serve taxpayers well.

With the New Year underway, resolutions are being made as we speak- or read, in your case. And while I am no expert in New Year’s resolutions or life advice, I am a fairly reputable source when it comes to books. Last year, if I remember correctly, I read roughly one hundred sixty books. All I got for Christmas this year was books, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. So, when Cody suggested I write some book recommendations, I jumped at the chance to share my favorites. Please keep in mind that I’m a nerd and all of these books are fiction.

A seizure can be one of the most frightening things for a family member, friend, or anyone to witness. However, for some people with epilepsy, seizures may be fairly common and not unexpected.

Douglas K Gengenbach, 84, passed away at his home Friday, December 22, 2023. He was born December 7, 1939 to Fred and Ilene (DeBoer) Gengenbach in Eustis, Nebraska. He attended country school and graduated from Eustis in 1957. He married Jane Grabenstein on May 1, 1960. To this union, his son Brent, and daughter Janine were born. In the early 70’s he built a farmyard which included their home, grain storage, shops and cattle pens. The marriage ended in 1978. In 1979, Doug married Merikay Berg. That marriage ended in 2011. He moved to McAllen, Texas and opened a yogurt store and farmed. Doug farmed his entire life.

A Rosary for Nancy (Luther) Neubauer will be recited on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the St.

David L. Rask, 69, of Minden, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at Kearney Regional Medical Center – Bryan Health. Funeral services was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with Rev. Donald Hunzeker and PMA Julie Schmidt officiating. The service was streamed to the church’s YouTube page. Interment following the service at the Minden Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials in Dave’s honor are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.

Brian R. Hinkle, age 46, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on December 31, 2023 in Orlando, Florida.

It’s hard to send out many thanks to all who were involved with Bob’s care and not miss mentioning someone. We so appreciated the Home Health nurses for Bob’s care and to the doctors and nurses at the hospital for all you did for Bob. You are all a very caring group of people. Many thanks to those who took time to visit Bob, both at home and at the hospital.
