The Elwood Public Schools Board of Education met on Monday, February 12th, 2024. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 29, 2024 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced today that most farm loan borrowers will be able to make payments to their direct loans online through the Pay My Loan feature on HYPERLINK “http://www.farmers. gov/” \\t “_blank” farmers. gov in early February. Pay My Loan is part of a broader effort by USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) to streamline its processes, especially for producers who may have limited time during the planting or harvest seasons to visit a local FSA office; modernize and improve customer service; provide additional customer self-service tools; and expand credit access to assist more producers.

The Village of Oxford Board of Trustees approved a series of items as directed by 5-Rule to move forward with future community planning at their regular meeting on Monday, February 12, 2024. Board chairman Mike Minarik reported that Village Attorney Justin Daake felt the items looked good.

Students in kindergarten through 12th grade can discover the outdoors by participating in the Nebraska Fish Art Contest. The 2024 contest, sponsored by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Wildlife Forever and Bass Pro Shops, is accepting entries through Feb.

The Southwest Public School board called the monthly meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. Board members John O’Dea and Duane Teter were absent from the meeting; the present school board members approved their absences.

Naomi Ruth (Dettmer) Leising, age 91, of Blue Hill, Nebraska, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, February 10, 2024. She was born in Kensington, Kansas on July 5, 1932 to Karl Louis and Frieda Dorothee (Dunkhas) Dettmer.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Christ’s Church at Lillian with Don Schauda officiating. Burial followed in the Gates Cemetery at Gates, NE.

LaVonne June (Aden) Banzhaf was born June 14, 1935 to Emil and Judith (Bratten) Aden at their home. LaVonne graduated from Gothenburg High School.

Lewis “Lewie” Ivan Palmer, age 88, of Mc-Cook, NE passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. Lewie was born April 13, 1935, in Wilsonville, NE to parents Ivan and Nellie L.
