LINCOLN – The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) is currently accepting applications to attend one of the biggest ag youth outreach events in the state. The Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute (NAYI) brings together hundreds of high school juniors and seniors for a week to learn more about agriculture, Nebraska’s number one industry.

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) is working with healthcare providers and other partners to reduce the rates of heart disease in southwest Nebraska. Heart disease is one of the top causes of death in southwest Nebraska and nationwide.

Carol Susan (Potter) Duis, 77, died February 6, 2024, surrounded by family at her home in Tacoma, WA. Born June 16, 1946, to Myrom “Hap” Potter and Catherine “Kay” (Trenchard) Potter and raised in Cambridge, NE. Carol attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she was a Regent Scholar, and spent over 30 years teaching in Chicago, IL and Oakdale, MN. She and husband John Robert “Bob” Duis lived on an 80-acre hobby farm in Somerset, WI, where they raised daughters Jennifer and Susan. After retiring, they moved to Haines, AK in 2006.
