Kilah (Deaver) Oaklund, Elwood TeamMates, and Lisa Dutt and Cindy Borland from the Cambridge TeamMates chapter all attended the TeamMates Annual conference in Lincoln July 10-12. Over 200 attendees representing 190 chapters from 5 states attended the conference to learn, network, and share. We heard TeamMates founder Coach Osborne talk about his vision for TeamMates and former Husker Football All American Will Shields (also one of the original TeamMates mentors) shared the impact of mentoring on his life. We are excited for the upcoming year! All the Team-Mates chapters in our area (Arapahoe, Cambridge, Elwood and Southern Valley) have students waiting for a mentor to volunteer. The Plains Tsunami Swim League Championship was held on Saturday, July 13 in Imperial, Nebraska. The league currently has 32 teams that span parts of Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska. Area teams were well represented at the meet bringing home many top places including 14 individual first place finishers.

The Oxford 8U Softball team took home 4th place in this year’s league tournament, proudly walking away with a well-earned medal. .

The Cambridge Lions Club is proud to present a check for $2,000 to the Cambridge Park Board Foundation. The funds were raised during the Lions Club Hamburger Feed held during Medicine Creek Days and we appreciate the community support for our fundraiser. The money is being donated to the Park Board Foundation to help with the all inclusive playground equipment project.

Cambridge Unit 199 of the American Legion Auxiliary met at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Building. After the Pledge of Allegiance, we welcomed the Girls State and Boys State students who came to give reports of their experiences at State. Hayden Garey, Meredith Breinig, and Mileeya Monter were the Girls State representatives. Lael Rathbun and Charlie Houser were there for Boys State. Trenton Roscop was not present. 14 members of the students’ families were in attendance.

A memorial service for Marvin W. Sheneman, Jr. will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Envoy Steven Dahl and Uncle Jerry White officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Stamford Cemetery in Stamford, Nebraska.

A memorial service for Richard E. Dietz will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Nebraska.

Erna (Coady) Martin was born in Oxford, NE on April 13, 1929, the daughter of John Bernard Coady and Theodocia Luella Smith. Erna celebrated her 95th birthday in 2024 and passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024 in Parker, CO.
