NDOT announces $18 million in Federal grants

Aug. 19, 2024 (Lincoln, Neb.) — On June 28 and July 26, 2024, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded $18 million to 24 airports across the state. The grant funds are part of a nationwide initiative to enhance airfield safety and infrastructure.

Arapahoe Methodist Church to host Sunday School Kick-off

The Arapahoe Methodist Church will be holding their Sunday School Kick-Off on Sunday, September 8th from 9:30 am-10:15 am at the Arapahoe Methodist Church. Ages are Pre-K thru 12th grade. New families welcome! Games, activities, crafts & cookie decorating. The event is free for those wanting to consider enrolling children in Sunday School for the 20242025 school year. Church service follows the event from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.

Cambridge City Council met in regular session on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. Council member Mike Harris arrived for the meeting at 6:32 p.m. After the Pledge of Allegiance and the Open Meeting Law announcement, the Council approved the Consent Agenda, which included approval of the August 5, 2024, City Council Meeting Minutes, the claims report, and the Planning Commission meeting minutes from August 14, 2024.

Free Private Well Testing during September

Do you drink private well water? Let us test it for FREE. During the month of September Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) is partnering with University of Nebraska Lincoln researcher Shannon Bartlet-Hunt as part of a community water project to provide free testing to private well owners in southwest Nebraska. The tests will look at nitrate, nitrite, and phosphate levels.

Curtis Pharmacy Burglary Suspect in Custody

On August 17, 2024 at 0047 hours the Frontier County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a burglary alarm at Curtis Pharmacy in Curtis, NE. When deputies arrived the back entrance to the pharmacy was found open with evidence of forced entry. Deputies cleared the building and located no one inside.

Evans, long-time Gosper County Clerk, to retire

ELWOOD - Longtime Gosper County Clerk Cynthia Evans is going to miss a few things about going to work at the courthouse in Elwood each day. In July, Evans submitted her resignation to the Gosper County Commissioners, signaling her retirement after working in the Clerk’s Office since 1981, the last 27 years as County Clerk.
Clerk Cynthia Evan’s is retiring August 30th after working for Gosper County for 43 years and serving as the Clerk for 27 years. The Secretary of State’s office presented her with a medallion on a plaque from the National Association of Secretaries of State for exemplary service to her county, state & nation.

OXFORD - Every summer dozens of kids busy their vacation by showing livestock and competing in the Furnas County Fair. However, Southern Valley student Tayley Becker keeps busier than most by showing all four livestock species at the county fair.
