AMHERST - Fourteen local wrestlers earned medals and Cambridge, Southern Valley and Hi-Line finished in the top 10 at the 18-team Amherst Invite Saturday. Cambridge’s Dierks Sayer led the way with an individual title at 138 pounds and helped the Trojans to a sixth-place finish.

CAMBRIDGE - A wild and explosive fourth quarter push rival scorers to big nights, but Cambridge outlasted Southwest, 76-65, Friday night to win their third-straight. Brady Ahlemeyer poured in 42 points for Cambridge, knocking down 11 of 13 free throws down the stretch to salt the game away.

ARAPAHOE - The Arapahoe girls basketball team ambushed visiting Southern Valley in the first quarter Saturday, jumping out to a 17-8 lead after a quarter. But the Eagles righted the ship and erased the deficit with a strong third quarter, eventually escaping with a 4641 victory, their ninth-straight after starting the season with consecutive losses.

TVHS welcomes New Year’s Baby

CAMBRIDGE - Tri Valley Health System welcomed their first baby of 2025. Trey Calvin Mansfeild was born to Alyssa Marie Heim of Canton, Kansas and Michael Mansfeild of Ellenville, New York on Tuesday, January 7 at 3:48pm. Trey weighed 5 pounds and was 18.5 inches tall and was delivered by Dr. Kaspar-Cope.

Demolition of the old nursing home building in Oxford began this week. At the time of this photo on the morning of Tuesday, January 14 not much remained standing. The entire front and west wing had been taken down, with the some of the south side still intact. The Northwest Village Centre part of the building is also slated for demolition. The Village of Oxford received a $300,000 grant to tear down the nursing home portion. They are using the Northwest Village Centre part of their budget for the loan taken out to tear down that building.

Arapahoe School Board hires new principal

ARAPAHOE – During the monthly meeting on January 14, the school board approved hiring Logan Kats as the 7-12 Principal for the 2025-2026 school year. Kats, who is currently teaching in Norton, Kansas, will replace Rudy Perez, who is retiring at the end of the current school year.

UNK announces Dean’s List

KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney announced students who earned a place on the dean’s list for the fall 2024 semester. Students who are on the dean’s list must have completed 12 credit hours or more of classes with a 3.5 grade-point average or better on a 4.0 scale.

Local FFA member receives grant from Wrangler

A $1,000 SAE grant has been awarded to Grace Andrews of Holbrook, NE by Wrangler. SAE grants are designed to help FFA members create or expand Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects, a requirement that all FFA members must complete.
