Topping off another excellent year, the NCTA Crops Judging team retained their 1st place title in the Crops contest and added the top spot in Precision Agriculture at the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Judging Conference hosted by West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas.

She expressed concerns about an elementary student’s unusual behavior, lack of playing with classmates, lack of communication and even some unusual motor movements, including flapping her hands. This was in 2001, and I was experiencing my first referral for a student who would eventually receive an educational diagnosis of autism.

When you think of 4-H, do you image a farm and exhibiting animals at a county fair? Well, think again. 4-H is about learning lifelong skills, creating new friendships, discovering new opportunities, exploring projects, and so much more. 4-H offers a wide variety of project interests such as consumer & family sciences, communications & expressive arts, animals & plants, healthy living, environmental sciences, science & technology, career and college readiness, agricultural literacy, citizenship and leadership. In fact, there are over 150 projects from which to choose. Some learning activities 4-H’ers might participate in include speech contests, quality assurance training for raising meat animals, livestock judging and home environment workshops. There are also a variety of camps 4-H’ers may attend during the summer that also provide learning experiences as well as fun.

Nebraska is steeped in military tradition. It is home to Offutt Air Force Base, Camp Ashland, and our Nebraska National Guard. The Guard’s roots run deep. In 1854, 13 years before Nebraska achieved statehood, Territory Governor Thomas B. Cumings called for Nebraska settlers to form two militia regiments which laid the foundation for the Nebraska National Guard.

Hi-line takes Runner-up, four medal at RPAC golf

CURTIS - The Hi-Line boys golf team pieced together another consistent set of rounds and took Runner-Up honors at the RPAC Golf Tournament in Curtis Thursday. The Bulls had just one golfer in the top ten individuals - Zach Whittaker finished tenth with an 87 - but the Bulls were consistent as Parker Schutz finished 13th with an 89 and Hudson Weeder and Gavin Tilson each carded rounds of 91 to tie for 16th.

Running to gold

SUTHERLAND - While a number of RPAC track and field athletes had put forth some of the best times and marks in the State, Friday represented the first time the entire conference gathered for one meet. The competition brought out the best in the athletes as nearly half of the RPAC Track and Field records were broken and ten local athletes won individual gold in addition to a pair of championship relays.
Arapahoe’s Will Cacy nipped both Dundy County-Stratton’s Laken Wissink and Hi-Line’s Asher Hecox at the line to claim first in the 100-meter dash.

BEAVER CITY – During the regular meeting on May 5, 2025, the city council discussed and acted on several items. Nate Fox of Fox Insurance Agency, who is the area agent for LARM (League Association of Risk Management), reviewed the recent insurance evaluation with council members.

At the organization’s last meeting, it was determined that the building would be permanently closed with utilities being shut off at the end of the month.
