Pastor Dan Wiese and members of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Youth Group of Cambridge assisted with clean up and maintenance at the Cambridge McKinley Park Flower Garden on Sunday. Their assistance was greatly appreciated by the flower garden’s caretakers.

On Sunday, October 5th, a Life Chain will be formed in Indianola along Highway 6 & 34 by the City Park from 2:00 until 3:00. Life Chain is a peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life individuals standing for 60 minutes, praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. It is a visual statement of solidarity by the Christian community that abortion kills children and that the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception until natural death is supported. Those of all faiths and of all ages are encouraged to stand with thousands of Prolife individuals throughout the USA and Canada.

On September 23rd, Trooper Tim Flick from Nebraska State Patrol spoke with students in grades 3 through 5 at Cambridge, Southwest and Arapahoe Schools about Online-Safety. Our children these days have access to multiple devices that give them access online. Whether it is apps, games or social media of some type, our children are exposed to possible predators. Some things to ask yourself: Which apps or games can be dangerous? How will I know when someone is a predator? How can I protect a child from these dangerous situations? Social media influences every day life and that is a fact. How many of our children have an I-Phone or some type of phone in their hands? That number now-a-days is scary. Cambridge Area Rotary Club was glad to be able to bring Trooper Tim Flick to our area schools. 9/15/25: Municipal Ordinance Violation, Beaver City, NE: Report of dogs schasing kids on bikes. On Sept. 15 deputies responded to a report of two dogs at large near 7th and Q streets in Beaver City, the dogs were observed running in the street and one chased a child riding a bicycle before returnig to the residence. The owner, Jeromy Van Baale was contacted and cited for two counts of dog at large and two counts of dangerous dog. No injuries were reported in the incident.

In response to these potential risks, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) – the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week™ for more than 100 years – has announced “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home” as the theme for Fire Prevention Week, October 5-11, 2025.

Frontier Stitchers Quilt Guild donated 13 comfort quilts to the Frontier County Sheriff’s Department during the Curtis Fall Festival. This was their service project. They are also looking for new members and meet at the Curtis Methodist Church on the 1st Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m.

Saturday tournaments continue to be a thorn in the side of the Maywood-Hayes Center volleyball team. After sweeping South Platte and Hi-Line at their home tournament Tuesday, the Wolves went 0-3 at the Holdrege Saturday.
