Medicine Valley Approves New Security System

CURTIS - The Medicine Valley School board conducted their regular business in less than one hour on Monday, May 9, 2026. The board approved a bid from ECare and ADI TIPS for a contract for a Total Camera Solution and Total Sensor Detection System.

LINCOLN - The Arapahoe and Maywood/Hayes Center girls basketball teams saw their seasons end in the first round of the Class Di State Tournament Thursday at the hands of the two tournament finalists. In the morning contest, undefeated Bloomfield hit Arapahoe with a scoring barrage early and the Warriors struggled to keep up.

Maywood Adopts Five-Year School Improvement Goals

MAYWOOD –the Maywood school board held their monthly meeting on Monday, March 9, 2026. During the meeting, the board approved the five-year school improvement goals required by the Nebraska Department of Education.

Sheriff ’s races highlight primary election ballot

With the filing deadline passed last week for the primary election in May, there are few contested races for the primary election at the local and county level. In Furnas County, all local races for city councils, mayor and school board will autoadvance to the general election in November.

Lashley named National Contractor of the Year

Ted Lashley received National Land Improvement Contractor of the Year Award in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Contractor of the Year award recognizes someone whose career reflects long-term commitment to both the land improvement industry and to LICA. Ted has been connected to LICA for most of his life.

Southwest identifies Tines as next principal

BARTLEY - Following the retirement of high school principal Matt Springer, Southwest Public Schools announced last week that it had identified and hired his replacement. After committees of staff and others interviewed three candidates, the district selected Mike Tines of Hitchcock County Public Schools.
