American Legion Auxiliary Unit 199 received 21 wreath orders for Dec. 19 ceremony
December 2020
Cambridge Unit 199 of the American Legion Auxiliary met in regular session in the Community Building at 2:05 p.m. with 7 members present. After Presentation of the Colors, Prayer and Preamble, the meeting was called to order by President Marlene Witte. Minutes of the November meeting were read by Jo Lewis. Mary Lou made a motion to approve the minutes; it was seconded by Charla. The treasurer’s report was given and approved.
President Witte gave Charla a copy of a picture of a wreath for the school children to color.
In communications, Pres. Witte read a letter from District 9 president Peggy Kennedy. Peggy reported that our district was No. 2 in the state for membership. She also gave information about her Fidget Blanket project. Her goal is 25 blankets; we can give them to any VA Home we choose. She also reported that Baylor Winters from McCook won the oratorical contest and will compete at State. For the mid-year conference in Columbus, we need to send the Department Secretary Lisa Moore a report on what we have done this year in volunteer hours. She enclosed a letter from the Department President congratulating our district on its membership achievement. National is still in the process of revising its site. Girls State will be virtual this year.
In new business, Charla asked if we want to make a donation of the Guideposts magazine to active duty servicemen. The subscriptions are $1o/year. After discussion, it was decided to table this until next meeting.
In old business, Sondra and Marlene reported on our Wreaths Across America sponsorship. We have 21 Wreath orders in. The ceremony is Dec. 19, at moo a.m. at Fairfield Cemetery. For the program, the Legion will provide the Color Guard and sound system. Six members of the National Honor Society and their sponsor Margo Kent will attend the ceremony. Band student Megan tenBensel will play Taps. After discussion, members decided to order 5 more wreaths for the unit to have for any latecomers; and Pres. Witte ordered 5 more wreaths. Sondra made the order. The due date was Dec. 1, so late orders might not arrive for this year’s ceremony. If they don’t arrive, the organization will credit us for those orders in 2021.
The meeting adjourned at 3:25 p.m. Charla gave a program about Christmas traditions and Jo provided lunch.
