What a beautiful day we had for Christmas. COVID-19 has prevented lots of gatherings, but at least the weather made safe outdoor visits possible. Mid-50’s temps on Christmas Day were awesome. But, Covid did still curtail the usual big family gatherings.

The Lebanon Presbyterian Church did have their annual Christmas Eve candlelight service. The attendance was small, making social distancing possible. Dewayne Jackson was the speaker and delivered a moving message. The candle lighting was moving as always.

After attending the Christmas Eve services, Virginia, Ron and Peggy Grafton joined the Fitzsimmons family for soup and gift exchange. On Christmas Day, Virginia, Ron and Peggy had dinner together with Ron as chef. He served his specialty, Chicken Crepes.

Frances Warner and Susan and Jay Wyatt stayed home like lots of other folks. They did enjoy a Prime Rib Christmas dinner along with exchanging gifts.

Ed and Ruth Ruf joined Barb and Kevin Hitt at their home for Christmas dinner and gift exchange.

Karen Brown has made her big move. With the help of family and friends, she became a resident of McCook on Monday. She’s very pleased to now be closer to .... well .... everything.

Christmas was a busy day for me. I spent the morning on the phone and fixing dinner, then had dinner via Zoom with Susan and Greg Kempel and family in North Dakota. In the afternoon, thanks to the nice day, I visited outdoors at the home of Steve and Shari Haag. Also in the afternoon, there were more phone calls with more of the family.

On Saturday, another nice day, I did Christmas gift exchanges, all outdoors again, at the home of Jeanine and Josh Haag, then at the home of Colleen, Rob and Naomi. Then I went to North Platte for another outdoor visit and gift exchange with Tracy and Nathan Moon of North Platte and Jessie Moon and friend of Lincoln.

After Saturday, outdoor visits haven’t been a good option. The Monday night snow left about 2” here on The Hill. The cold isn’t fun, but we need the moisture.

As we come to the close of 2020, many are rejoicing to see its end with the hope that 2021 will bring fewer struggles. My prayer for all my readers is that you have a SUCCESSFUL, HEALTHY AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Happy Birthday to Melissa (Haag) Stewart and Vanessa (Bamesberger) Crookshank on January 8, Jeanine Haag on the 13th and Rusty Lepper on the 14th.
