Oxford Board discusses utilities with Golden Generation

Members of the Golden Generation Center Board were in attendance at the Village of Oxford Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, June 12 to discuss assistance with utilities. They told the board they serve about 40 meals each day as well as getting to check in on many people when delivering meals. They said it is probably the nicest facility in town and that it is used for many different activities.

Kids enjoyed Big Power Day at the Beaver City Public Library

Big Power Day took place at the Beaver City Public Library on Friday, June 9, showing kids different vehicles used for jobs in the community. Workers of Beaver City showed off large vehicles, brought the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, and demonstrated how to use equipment for kids during the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Vehicles on display included an ambulance, fire engine, trash truck, excavator and tractor. Volunteers from the Beaver City Volunteer Fire Department and EMS showed kids how to use equipment and turn on sirens in the ambulance and fire engine. Deputy Colin Rogers of the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office came as part of the K-9 Unit for part of the event to show off his partner, Nikka. Donovan’s Smoke Shack displayed their truck as well while serving lunch.

CCC-Grand Island students receive scholarships

(Grand Island, Neb.) – About 280 new and returning students have received scholarships for the 2023-24 academic year at Central Community College in Grand Island, Holdrege, Kearney and Lexington. Christian Women’s Connection June 20

Lexington Area Christian Women’s Connection will meet on Tuesday, June 20th at Kirk’s at 6:30 p.m. It is also Men’s Night. Speaker is Gayle Haas of Aurora, Illinois. Her program is titled A Visit With Corrie Ten Boom. It is about a Dutch Holocaust survivor who helped Jews escape the Nazi regime. Music is Deb and Roger Wells. CCC Spring Honor Lists

(Grand Island, Neb.) – Central Community College has announced the names of full-time students who earned spots on the President’s and Dean’s honor lists for the 2023 spring semester. The students were enrolled at one or more CCC locations, which include the Columbus, Grand Island and Hastings campuses; Holdrege, Kearney and Lexington centers; and Ord Learning Center.

Trinity Lutheran Church holds VBS

The Arapahoe Trinity Luthera Church held Vacation Bible School last week with several children enjoying the weeklong activities including (right) making these blankets to give to the Orphan Grain Train. They learned about Daniel’s Courage in Captivity, sang some songs, made crafts and played a few games. The closing program was held on Friday morning with a hotdog lunch following in the fellowship hall.

Summer Happenings in Edison will be Food Truck Fridays. The weather that impacted places north and west of Oxford held off for the 66th Turkey Days celebration June 9 – 11. The temperatures stayed mild for a weekend full of activities.

Cambridge Board of Education approves curriculum purchases

The Cambridge Board of Education met on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 7:00 pm. Board member Trevor Kubik was excused from the meeting. After approving the agenda and minutes from the May 8th, 2023 meeting, the Board heard the Treasurer’s Report from Superintendent-Elect Jarod Albers. He said we are significantly ahead of where the school was last year at this time. The Board then approved the general fund claims and then the building fund claim from River Valley Services.
