LEBANON - On Tuesday, May 17, severe weather developed quickly over southern Red Willow county with reports of a tornado south of Lebanon. A tornado warning was issued, then allowed to expire, but according to the National Weather Service in Hastings, a number of weather phenomenon were making appearances that afternoon.

10 years ago Receiving year-end recognitions were Alec McCurdy Butch Luther Award, Allison Dobson All School “C”, Kalen Farr All School “C”, Breezy Huxoll Girls Athlete, and Katelyn Flammang Valedictorian. Long time Cambridge boys and golf coach Del Schoenfish will be inducted in a class of 20 athletes, coaches, officials and other contributors.

10 years ago Salutatorian Grant Rahjes, Ashley Larson, and Valedictorian Carl Einsphar were the speakers for Saturday graduation at Elwood High School. Driver Education will be offered this summer with Kurt Banzhaf as instructor and cost the class is $225.

10 years ago The Southwest School Board approved the employment of Adam Michael Long as Custodian/Maintenance allowing Jay Wyatt to spend more time on the busses as well as adding custodian capability. The individual team members of Southwest qualifying for State Track are: Kenzie May long jump, Kate Kelley 200 meter and 400 meter, Abby Daffer 3200 meter and Michael Brodd 300 meter hurdles.

25 Years Ago May 15, 1997 The installation of Sue Broeker of Beaver City as president of the South Platte United Chambers of Commerce Tuesday evening was a first in its 63- year history. She is the first woman president of the organization.

100 Years Ago May 25, 1922 Twenty-five attended the Retail Hardware Dealers Convention in Oxford at the Burlington Hotel. The New Era School with Velma Cooke, teacher, closed Friday with a picnic at the lake.
