John Arthur Barker, age 79, of Holbrook, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at the Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Nebraska. He was born on July 7, 1942 in Omaha, Nebraska. In January 1946, he was adopted by Ralph and Mary (Williamson) Barker where sister Dorothy welcomed him into the family.

Paula Maxine Hilker, age 92, of Cambridge, Neb., passed away at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood, Neb., on May 12, 2022. She was born on March 4, 1930, at her family farm near Cambridge to William and Mabel (Ridpath) Sayer. She was one of fourteen children born to the family. Maxine graduated from Holbrook High School in 1948.

Ruth M. Monter of Eustis passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Elwood Care Center at the age of 89. Ruth was born December 28, 1932 near Eustis, Nebraska to Fred and Paulena (Schneider) Toberer. She grew up on a farm east of Eustis and graduated from Eustis High School with the class of 1951. Ruth received a teaching degree from Nebraska State Teachers College at Kearney and taught school from 1952 to 1958. On December 22, 1957, Ruth married Roger Monter at Eustis, Nebraska. The couple made their home on a farm north of Holbrook, Nebraska until moving to Eustis in 2008. Ruth loved the farm and was a hands on farm wife. She enjoyed baking, especially decorating wedding and birthday cakes. She was a faithful and devoted member St. John’s Lutheran Church. For many years she was an active member of the Sunshine Club. Ruth enjoyed oil painting and playing the piano. Her most cherished times were spent with family, friends and her fourlegged friend, Smokey.

Betty L. Davis age 84 of McCook passed away in North Platte on April 26, 2022. She was born in Greeley, CO on September 14, 1937, to Harold and Lula M. (Cumley) Sothman. The family move to McCook in 1970. On September 27, 1952, she wed Gene Ellenwood. To this union five children were born: Jim, Bill, Steve, Dianna, and Penny. On April 12, 1976, she wed Dale F. Davis and he preceded her in death on November 15, 2002.

RUTH A. MAXSON

Ruth Ann Maxson, 85, of Beatrice passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2022. She was born on May 25, 1936, at Wilsonville, NE and moved with her family to Beatrice at the age of eight. She graduated from Beatrice High School in 1954. She worked at Sack Lumber before her marriage to Ladd J. Maxson on December 15, 1957, at Beatrice. They lived in several places throughout the United States while Ladd was in the military, returning to Beatrice in 1968. She worked in the dietary department at Beatrice Good Samaritan from 1975 until her retirement in 2004. She was a life-long member of the First Christian Church (DOC) of Beatrice and a member of Circle 2 of the church. She was also a member of B.P.O.E. Does Drove #10 of Beatrice and had served as president five times. She was a past member of PTA, Girl Scouts and Brownies. She enjoys dogs and cats and spending time with her family, especially attending her grandchildrens’ school activities and sporting events.

JOHN “JP” P. TRUMBLE

John “JP” Patrick Trumble age 66, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022, while helping with evacuation efforts and fire spotting for the wildfire. He was born in Cambridge on December 15, 1955, to John R. and Beulah (Mousel) Trumble. JP attended Cambridge Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 73. On April 16, 1977, he wed Luella Meader and to this union four children were born: Jodi, Staci, Kyle and Mike. JP worked as a mechanic, opening JP Repair in 1985. He was well known in the area for his mechanic skills. In 2009, he began working for CPI in Cambridge as an operations mechanic and safety officer. A year later, CPI was purchased by Nebraska Corn Processing (NCP) where JP recently worked as maintenance coordinator. He began serving on the Cambridge Volunteer Fire Department in 1986, retiring in 2011 after 14 years as the Chief. He was also an influential councilman on the City Council for 15 years that was instrumental in the BIC (Bartley, Indianola, and Cambridge) Water project and ethanol plant project. JP also played a significant role in starting the Furnas County Home Owned Carnival that continues to be a great success story today. In his spare time, you could find him working on mechanic projects, mowing, small farming, and teaching his beloved dogs special tricks.
