Based on science, built on trust

Body
As we approach the end of our 22 nd season, I would like to thank our audience for trusting us to bring them health information that is current and accurate. There are many doctors out there who cannot make the same claims as the Prairie Doc’s and I would like to take this opportunity to help sort out those charlatans and quacks from trusted sources of health information.

Fighting to protect women’s sports

Body
Title IX was passed by Congress more than 50 years ago to level the playing field for girls and women. It prohibits sex-based discrimination in sports and education programs that receive federal funding. Recently, Joe Biden’s Department of Education (DOE) released new Title IX rules that radically rewrite the law. The rewrite threatens the progress and safety of American girls and women in education and athletics. I’m standing with women across Nebraskaagainst these radical new policies.

Dry skin? Join the club.

Body
An exceedingly common question I get in clinic, especially in the heart of a South Dakota winter, is how to remedy dry skin. And the questions aren’t just in clinic; my own kids, family, friends, everyone seems to have an occasional problem with dry and irritated skin.

Cow nutrition for a successful breeding season

Body
By Erin Laborie, Livestock Systems Extension Educator Plane of nutrition prior to and through the breeding season is one of the largest factors influencing time to first heat and conception rate, especially for replacement heifers and young cows. Considering feed costs make up the largest expense in a cow-calf operation, it is important for producers to determine the optimum pregnancy rate for their specific production environment.

In the upcoming election, values matter

Body
In his 1796 farewell address, our first President George Washington said, “Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle”. In short, the very survival of our nation relies on the survival of our public faith. Our founding fathers created a brilliant system of government with checks and balances, but that system was based upon a nation that practiced their freedom of religion. With this upcoming primary election, we must remember to look deeper than flashy social media ads and commercials. Instead, it’s important to ask: will this candidate support our nation’s founding values?

A disgraceful impeachment process

Body
For years, Democrats have refused to address the out-of-control crisis on our southern border, putting politics over the safety and security of the American people. Last week, they put politics over people again — refusing to hold a full trial to consider the impeachment articles against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

A victory for Nebraska’s courts

Body
Last week, the U.S. Senate confirmed Judge Susan Bazis to the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska. That vote was a victory for Nebraska, and it was a long time coming. Ever since Judge John Gerrard, who previously held the seat, announced he would retire in February 2023, I’ve been working to find an exemplary candidate to replace him. Judge Bazis is exactly that.

Reflecting on progress

Body
It’s human nature to tell stories about the past, and doctors aren’t immune to that impulse. The second year medical students rotating through my clinic have me reflecting on my own years as a fledgling physician, and the changes I’ve seen in my decades of practice.
