Southwest girls take sixth at Cattle Trail

The Southwest Girls’ Roughriders Basketball team finished in sixth place at the 2020 Cattle Trail Invitational Basketball Tournament hosted at McCook High School and McCook Community College. The Roughriders lost the first match to Decatur Community on Tuesday, Dec. 8, but defeated Arapahoe on Friday, Dec. 11 to be in the fifth/sixthplace game against Medicine Valley, Saturday, Dec. 12. Med Valley earned the victory to drop Southwest to sixth-place overall.

Eagles and Trojans split battles

SOUTHERN VALLEY - After a sluggish second quarter, the Cambridge girls basketball team found its advantage inside and pulled away after the break for a 30-34 victory at Southern Valley last Tuesday. The Trojans led throughout the first half, but struggled to shake the Eagles as they led 16-11 after a quarter and held a 22-16 edge at the half.

SOUTHERN VALLEY It took a minute or two for the action to get going in the annual showdown between Southern Valley and Cambridge boys basketball teams last Tuesday. But once the Eagles got going, they jumped all over the Trojans and were able to coast to a 61-38 victory.

MCCOOK - The Arapahoe boys basketball team picked up a victory in the first round, but saw its Cattle Trail Tournament end with a fourthplace finish after consecutive losses to quality foes over the weekend.

Cambridge, Hi-Line compete at Twin Loup

Cambridge and Hi-Line wrestled at the Twin Loup Invite hosted in Sargent on Friday, Dec. 11. Cambridge scored 79 points to finish fifth. Hi-Line followed closely with 74 points for a sixth-place finish.

Elwood Board thanks Jorges for 16 years of service

ELWOOD - The Elwood Board of Education met Monday to approve some bids on Facilities needs and to approve a negotiated agreement with its teaching staff for the 2021-2022 school year. After negoatiations, the Board approved a $750 raise to its base for teachers contracts, raising the base to $35,800 per year.

BARTLEY - The Southwest Board of Education met Monday at the High School in Bartley to approve a negotiated contract with teachers for the 2021-2022 school year, to thank a two-term school board member for her service and to hear from a concerned parent on a quarantine of an elementary class.
