As long as our Gosper County numbers stay down we can remain open. The Gosper County Senior Center will continue to serve meals for delivery or pick-up for the remainder of March. KEARNEY – Seven high school students have been named winners in a Universit of Nebraska at Kearney writing contest with the them “Nebraska in the Year 2020.” The Nebraska Emerging Writer Contest included submissions from students across the state in three categories: essay, poetry and short story. It was sponsored and organized by UNK’s Phi Eta Sigma chapter. Cash prizes totaling $500 were given to the winners.
The week of the young child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children., the world’s largest early childhood association. The purpose of this week is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families, and to recognize the early childhood programs, and services that meet those needs. Furnas County Head Start is celebrating this week by having snacks and games in the local parks. Our schedule is:
The Cambridge City Council met in regular session on Monday, April 5, 2021. All Council members were present. An audit report was shared by Schuyler Sharp from Countryman Associates via Zoom. He reported to the Council that they didn’t find anything big to draw any attention. A note was made about segregation of duties as the City does not employee enough people to have a true checks and balances of finances, this is a common problem with small municipalities, but Sharp wanted to point out the response. A motion was made to approve the audit report as submitted. The motion passed.
Opened in January 2020, the Cambridge Community Daycare Foundation, a nonprofit community foundation, is conveniently located at Cambridge Public School. With a current capacity of 12 children, the foundation is serving more than 15 families that would otherwise not have had childcare. Since its inception, the foundation has employed 7 people, both part-time and full-time. Goals for 2021 are serving additional families and potentially doubling in capacity.
