Olivia Leising, a junior from Arapahoe, Neb., was one of 239 students named to Concordia University, Nebraska's honors list for the Spring 2021 semester. The top 25 percent of all undergraduate students who complete at least 12 credit hours qualify for the honors list..

Sons of American Legion hold hamburger feed and ceremony for disposing worn out flags

The Sons of the American Legion hosted a free will hamburger feed with ice cream at the Arapahoe Park on Sunday, June 13th. After the meal at 7:00 p.m., they held a ceremony to dispose of worn flags. First they explained to those attending, what each fold means when folding a flag the correct way. A gun salute and taps was played before the flags were burned.

The Sons of The American Legion hamburger supper and flag retirement ceremony were a success. We would like to thank all of those who attended. A special thanks to the City of Arapahoe for the use of the beautiful park, Mel Christensen family for hamburger, AgValley Coop for the grill, and Pioneer for paper products. We would like to congratulate the winners of the drawing: Heath Hammond, Penny Lingg, Stacia Gellerman, Hawk Ellis, Kat Barger, Shannon Tolle, and Scott tenBensel.

KENNETH A. KUGLER

Kenneth A. Kugler of Johnson Lake passed away June 10, 2021 at the age of 90 years. Kenneth was born April 11, 1931 in Eustis, Nebraska to August and Clara (Schmeeckle) Kugler. He graduated from Eustis High School. On January 18, 1953, Kenneth married Marjorie Bartruff at the Methodist Church in Eustis. They were the fourth generation to farm the homestead near Eustis and also farmed near Johnson Lake. The couple were blessed with 3 children, Jane, Scott and Kurt. Kenneth loved traveling with Marjorie and his favorite trip was touring Alaska. He loved to play cards with family and all his friends in their card club. He was a member and past President of the Eustis Lion’s Club. He was a confirmed and long time member of the St. John Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He enjoyed living on Johnson Lake watching the eagles in the winter and the great grandchildren play in the water during summer visits. He loved driving the combine during harvest. He could grill anything including steak and an apple pie for dessert. He loved to make sausage. Kenneth said he had a great life and that he and Marjorie had lots of fun together. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marjorie.

Edward Don Rinehart, age 60, of McCook, was surrounded by the love of his family when he passed away at his home in McCook on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. He was born to Donnie and Carol (Emrich) Rinehart on September 13, 1960 in Cambridge, Nebraska. Ed graduated from Republican Valley High School with the class of 1978.

Larry "Bugs" Foster, age 81, of Bartley, passed away at the Community Hospital in McCook on November 9, 2020. He was born in Omaha, NE on February 5, 1939 to Leo and Dorothy (Wight) Foster.
