Kay Lynn Swartz, age 60, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at her home. She was born November 5, 1960 in Lamar, Colorado to L.C. and Rosa D. (Westmoreland) Aaron. She was a raised in Lamar, Colorado as the youngest of 12 children. She loved gardening, time outdoors, Bar-B-Que’s, her children, friends, and family. She spent her later years in Nebraska with her sister Judy and husband Bill, going to sales, camping, and listening to music.

James Leroy Rayer age 85 of McCook, passed away at the Hillcrest Care Center of McCook on Sunday, July 11, 2021. He was born in Bartley, NE at home on April 19, 1936, to Maurice W. and Elsie (Colling) Rayer. Jim attended and graduated from Indianola High School in 1953. He continued his education at Kearney State Teachers College in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.

It’s Fair Week!

The Furnas County Fair and Rodeo returns this year July 12-17 at the Furnas County Fair Grounds in Beaver City. entertainment and activities begin Wednesday evening with the Kids Tractor Pull, which will chug off at 6:00 p.m., and at 7:00 p.m.
The Furnas County Fair began Monday in Arapahoe with the Fashion and Talent Show at the Ella Missing Center.

Aksarben announces the Aksarben Farm Family Award recipients for 2021

Since the 1950s, the Aksarben Foundation has been celebrating Nebraskan farm families with its tradition of awarding Pioneer and Heritage Farm Family Awards. To date, nearly 10,000 families have been recognized at their county fair with this distinction. Aksarben partners with Nebraska Farm Bureau and the Nebraska Association of Fair Managers on these awards each year, honoring families for 100 or 150 years of consecutive family farm ownership in Nebraska.
